Many Malagasy households have reacted strongly to comments made by the Minister of Energy and Hydrocarbons, Solo Andriamanampisoa, who said that there would be no more load shedding in the capital, but that there would still be power cuts. An ambiguous statement for some, but a real deception for others, as load shedding does indeed continue. Undeniably, for most Malagasy, access to electricity remains a real obstacle course. According to the latest official figures published by the World Bank, 18 million Malagasy do not have access to electricity on a daily basis. That's more than half the population. A situation that has given rise to investment projects such as those for expensive equipment, solar panels and other renewable energy tools.
