Information about the spread of cholera has been circulating among households in the capital of Grande Comores, Moroni, for several days now, although the exact date remains unknown. The authorities on the neighbouring island only confirmed the outbreak on Friday 2 February. However, the Boeny region has taken security measures to protect entrances to the maritime areas of the town of Mahajanga, with which it has close commercial links.
