Yet another protest in Andaboy, in the district of Toliara I, with men and women determined to prevent, at all costs, the mining extraction of the "Base Toliara" project, formerly Toliara Sands. In 2019, following popular protests in this region of southwestern Madagascar, the project was suspended for socio-environmental reasons, before resuming in 2024. But why such opposition to this project, which could bring 5 billion dollars to Madagascar over 38 years? In response to these protests, yesterday, the Minister of Communication and Culture, Volamiranty Mara Donna, government spokesperson, held a press conference at her ministry’s headquarters in Nanisana to remind the public of the significant economic benefits of the project.
