On June 26, 2025, Madagascar marked its 65th anniversary of independence, a day intended for celebration. However, the event starkly highlighted the contrast between the planned festivities and the harsh realities faced by many Malagasy citizens. Under the theme “Fitiavan-tanindrazana miteraka fandrosoana” (The love of the homeland engenders progress), the day became a mirror reflecting the profound disillusionment gripping the island. Far from the anticipated joyous festivities, the commemoration revealed a growing divide between an exhausted populace and leaders struggling to restore trust and curb alarming economic and social degradation.
